I’ve watched Gomez for many years and in my own mind think of him as a good player, he has several good back to back games then makes a howler.
This time round it’s different. To me and most Liverpool Fans I speak to Joe Gomez is currently a linchpin for the team, standing out as the sole player remaining from the squad Jurgen Klopp inherited in 2015.
As reported in the Liverpool Echo, despite enduring injuries, including a cruciate knee ligament injury early in Klopp’s tenure, Gomez has shown resilience and versatility. The 26-year-old defender, with almost nine seasons at Anfield, has faced fitness challenges but is currently in what Klopp considers the best form of his career. Gomez’s commitment to Liverpool is evident, having recently signed a new contract. Klopp praises Gomez’s importance, emphasising his ability to play multiple defensive positions.
The upcoming game against Newcastle holds significance for Liverpool, who aim to maintain their defensive prowess, boasting the best record in the top flight. Klopp acknowledges the importance of solid defense as the foundation for offensive potential. Liverpool seeks to continue their successful run, with contributions from players like Alexis Mac Allister and Diogo Jota. Klopp reflects on a past resilient victory against Newcastle, highlighting the team’s defensive strength with ten men.
Meanwhile, Newcastle faces the daunting task of securing their first league victory at Anfield in nearly 30 years, requiring a near-perfect performance. Manager Eddie Howe recognises the tough challenge but emphasises the need for his team to rediscover their best form and demonstrate mental strength. As Liverpool aims for continued success, the clash against Newcastle presents an opportunity for both teams to make a statement in the Premier League.
