Injuries: fatal accident

A girl, 17, died after a coach carrying 39 pupils and five members of staff from a Grammar School lost control, hit a bridge and went into a river during a snowstorm.

The girl was on a trip to Alton Towers theme park in Staffordshire when the accident happened on the A73 near Biggar, South Lanarkshire.

A Crown Office spokesman said: “Crown Counsel have instructed that a fatal accident inquiry should be held into the death of Natasha Paton who died.”

A date has yet to be set for the inquiry, although the Crown Office said Natasha’s family will be kept informed of any progress.

No prosecutions are being sought over the case.
