Subject: Worker loses sight in one eye after accident at work

A man who has had an accident at work has been left with loss of sign in one eye.

The man was carrying out maintenance work to clean a paint fume filter. As he went to disconnect the equipment, the hose whipped back and struck him in the face, hitting his eye and breaking his cheekbone.

The 49 year old has permanently lost the sight in his right eye but has in right eye but has recently just returned to work.

Investigations found that the company had failed to provide the worker with sufficient information, instruction or training on the equipment he was using.

The company was fined £20,000 and ordered to pay £7,813.70 in costs.
