VW accused of fraud “at all levels” following emissions scandal
According to The Times VW have been accused of orchestrating a large scale fraud against car owners and regulators to try to cover up evidence that the carmaker had cheated on emissions tests, explained in documents filed to the courts. In September of last year VW admitted they had fitted a software to their cars to cheat emissions test results.
This week civil lawsuits have been brought by the attorneys-general of New York, Massachusetts and Maryland. They claim that the decision to install the cheat devices was not merely made by a couple of software engineers but by a employees at all levels. These lawsuits come after VW reached settlement with US regulators which will cost them cost to 15 Billion Dollars.
VW are yet to agree a compensation package with UK drivers, which has recently been criticised by a transport select committee.
