VW criticised by MP’s for failing to compensate UK owners
According to the BBC VW’s failure to compensate UK owners of the cars affected by the emissions scandal is unfair. Whilst UK owners can have their cars repaired in the UK, following the emissions scandal, owners in the US can have their vehicles repaired and claim compensation.
A select committee was chaired by Labour MP Louise Ellman, who according to the article, criticised VW for “acting cynically” to cheat emissions tests. The cross party transport select committee also advised that the Department for Transport had done very little to hold VW to account for their actions, as reported in The Times.
The report comes 10 months after VW admitted that they had deliberately installed a device to some of their diesel cars which cheated emissions tests. In the wake of the emissions scandal there was a global recall of vehicles leading to a drop in profits for VW. Last month VW agreed a deal with US regulators to compensate owners in the US however they haven’t as of yet agreed a deal with UK owners following the emissions scandal.
