VW ready to pay 10bn dollars in the US

Homepage 1.1-17

Volkswagen is understood to have agreed to pay more than 10 billion to compensate customers who bought their diesel cars in the United States according to The Wall Street Journal. It is reported that most of the money would compensate 482,000 owners of cars with diesel engines that were fitted with “cheat devices”.

Following the emissions scandal VW put aside 16 billion euros to cover the cost of legal action that was to be filed against them. They agreed in principle a deal with US regulators that would see them pay for the car to be repaired or buy back the car.

At this time there has been no such deals made in the UK and there has been increasing pressure on VW to strike a deal with car owners in the UK.
