Judge in US makes decision on compensation
A deal has been struck between Volkswagen, the US government and private lawyers in relation to the cars effected by the emissions scandal as reported in The Guardian.
The owners of the cars will have the option to have their cars fixed or bought back by VW, although details haven’t been released as to how much the car owners would be paid, the judge said the owners would be entitled to “substantial compensation”.
VW will now have until 21st June to file preliminary proposals outlining what they consider to be suitable compensation packages for customers who own cars effected by the VW emissions scandal.
The Guardian also reports the possible impact the ruling in the US may have on European customers. Analysts estimate that the impact the emissions scandal has had on VW financially is around $32.3bn.
