CEO made aware of possible probe a year before scandal broke.

Volkswagen (according to Auto Express) claim that the former CEO Martin Winterkorn was made aware that they could potentially be breaching regulations with regards to their emissions tests in May 2014, almost a year before the scandal was broken, which has subsequently seen a raft of claims for compensation.

According to Auto Express, Volkswagen have quickly denied there was prior knowledge of the scandal after arguing that he may not have seen the memorandum because it was included in what the car giant called “his extensive weekend reading”.

It is now clear that the bad publicity Volkswagen are getting is starting to take its toll as their UK sales are down 14 percent compared to last year’s figures, as many car owners are brining claims against Volkswagen.
