Subject: Two employees sustain serious injuries at work
A company has been prosecuted after two employees were left badly injured when they were knocked nearly five metres to the ground following a work place accident claim.
One of them suffered a broken jaw, 11 broken teeth, a fractured elbow and a broken pelvis. He is still unable to fully straighten his left arm and has needed reconstructive surgery on his jaw. The second employee suffered whiplash and required ten stitches for a head wound.
The two men, one 45 and one 47, were struck by an overhead crane. Investigations found that if the job had been planned effectively, the accident at work would not have happened.
The company was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay £1,491 in costs.
