Child accident case study: A young girl had been visiting hospital her whole life for constant treatment. She was suffering a rare medical condition which made her arteries and veins wrap around each other causing problems with her blood flow. Her treatment involved two syringes one containing glue and one containing a dye. The dye was to make sure that the blood flow around the brain was stable while the glue was injected. The procedure was quite simple though one of the staff had mixed up the syringes which lead to her brain being injected by glue causing brain damage. She was awarded £2.8 million as a lump sum and further payments made of £383,000 pa until she is 19. After she is nineteen the money will be increased to £423,000. The money will go on her care.
