Watchdog claims that advertisements made false claims about emissions

The US Governments top consumer watchdog has filed a law suit against VW over the emissions scandal as reported in The Times. The Federal Trade Commission have accused VW of deceptively advertising “clean diesel” vehicles and promoting cars fitted with cheating devices that gave out the wrong emissions scores.

The commission is bringing the legal action are seeking to have a court order granted which would mean VW would have to compensate American drivers who bought or leased a car which was fitted with the wrong devices.

Since it emerged last year that VW had falsified emissions data on diesel vehicles it has been speculated that almost 1.2 million vehicles are in the UK. VW have also admitted using the devices on other car brands such as; Audi, Seat and Skoda.
