Thomson Airways has apologised to flight delay passengers who were left stranded in an airport overnight after their delayed plane was forced to make an emergency landing.
The flight delay from Newcastle to Zante – was due to leave Newcastle International Airport at 2.35pm on Tuesday. One passenger said the plane departed two hours late and was forced to make an emergency landing in Athens in Greece due to thunderstorms. It was claimed some people had been left stranded at Athens International Airport overnight with nowhere to sleep, and the airline had only given the passengers €20 each to buy refreshments.
One passenger said they had not been told by the firm when they would fly to Zante and described the ordeal as “hell”. Thomson Airways issued an apology to passengers who were affected by the delay “We understand how frustrating a flight delay can be, however we hope our passengers appreciate that this is beyond our control.”
