Subject: Teenage worker badly burned after skip explodes
A skip company has been fined after a 15 year old was involved in an accident at work.
The young worker was engulfed by a fireball as he used petrol as an accelerator to burn scrap car parts. As a result, he suffered severeburns to his face, neck, chest and arms. The injuries at work covered almost a quarter of his body.
Not long before, a second teenager was involved in a work place accident at the same site where he sustained minor flash burns.
Investigations later found that both teenagers were left to work unsupervised and were given the authority of the site’s director. The company was fined £23,000 and ordered to pay £5,113 because of this.
