Two men attempted to lift a piece of machine material weighing 70-90kg. One of his colleagues lost his grip and let go of the wheel which caused his hand to become trapped against a wrapping table. His hand was badly damaged that required reconstruction of his fingertip and nail-bed. When an investigation was carried out it was discovered that this method of lifting was used before the injury. However no risk assessment carried out or advice on manual handling.
