Liverpool have confirmed that striker Daniel Sturridge will be out for up to 3 weeks with a thigh injury.

Sturridge was injured whilst on international duty with England and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists the injury could of been prevented.

If Sturridge is out for 3 weeks it could see him miss up to 3 Premier League games including the Merseyside darby, 2 Champions League games and the league cup tie against Middlesbrough.

Rodgers said “It’s more the recovery strategy. When we look at our players here we look atthem individually in terms of what their needs are.

“Fast players would have a second day recovery while other players can work onthat day.

“When you are that type of quick player like Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterlingand boys like Danny Welbeck you need to recover them.

“He (Sturridge) has worked so hard over pre-season and looked very fit andstrong in our last game against Tottenham.”
