Generally, to make a successful claim you will need to show that you have a disease which, on the balance of probabilities, has been caused by exposure to asbestos.
There are a number of different serious medical conditions which are caused by exposure to asbestos which lead to asbestos claims. These include diseases such as mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis; tend to follow several decades after the exposure took place. If you or a family member have had exposure to Asbestos at work and suffer from any of these conditions, we may be able to assist in claiming compensation.
Asbestos can be carried on clothing so even people who do not have a direct risk of exposure can make an asbestos claim if they have been affected by it. For example, asbestos claims can be made by someone who lives with a worker who is exposed to the substance.
People who regularly came across asbestos as part of their job were:
- Laggers
- Thermal insulation engineers
- Ship yard workers
- Asbestos manufacturing workers
- Women who assembled gas masks during the war
- Building workers
- Plumbers
- Gas fitters
- Carpenters
- Electricians
- Painters and decorators
