When a baby is born, the first thing you will hear is the baby’s cry but this baby boy did not not scream, cry or whimper for the first year of his life.
He was badly effected by alcohol when he was in the womb as his birth mother had binged on alcohol throughout the whole of her pregnancy. It was said he was “pickled” in alcohol when he was in the womb and drunk when he was born.
The alcohol affected the development of the baby. His ability to learn was delayed: he first cried at 11 months old, he first laughed aged one, sat up when he was three and started to walk at four. It took a year for the alcohol to leave his system. He was the first child to be diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder FASD. Now in his thirties he is living proof of the effects of FASD.
