Key words: Child injury and accident

A child aged nine years old lived in newly built block of flats with her auntie and uncle. The child turned a light switch on that caused a small explosion. The explosion caused the windows to shatter and also caused a door to come off its hinges. The child’s uncle explained that he was sitting on a chair by the wall in the next room when he was thrown off the chair due to the force of the explosion.

The child was trapped under the door and had to be carried outside by her uncle. The child was taken to hospital where she was treated for burns to over forty per-cent of her body.
