A 32 year old male worker suffered at accident at work when he was trying to clear a blockage in a grain dust extractor to dislodge the build-up, but his right hand made contact with the rotary valve, which was still running. His middle and index finger were severed.
It was found that the machine had been unguarded and no risk assessment carried out on it.
As a result of his accident at work he has had to five operations and was only recently able to return to work full time.
The company was fined £6,000 and ordered to pay £10,000 in costs.
