A child was competing in a beauty contest and wanted to get a perm for the event. Her mother took her to the local hair dressers to get it done. The hairdresser said a perm would not be a problem but failed to carry out a test on the child’s head to see if she would react to the solution.
Unfortunately the chemicals proved to be too strong for the child’s hair/scalp or that it was wrongly applied or both to the extent that her scalp became red and hair began to fall out following rinsing. The child was in a lot of pain and sustained quite serious burns to her scalp, neck and ears.
The mother sued the hairdressers for compensation her injuries, pain and suffering. The child was entitled to £18,500 in full and final settlement.
