A woman was working for a design company. She was required to undertake a manual handling course when she first started the job and hadn’t been updates since. When she was cleaning someone’s bed room she was trying to move a chest of draws. As a result she suffered a soft tissue injury to her shoulder and neck and lower back.
Due to her employer’s failure to update her manual handling training her employers were liable for the accident less 30% liable due to the employee being failing to request help or undertake the correct manual handling procedure.
As a result of her injuries, she was entitled to £7,980. The client also had two weeks off with full pay, a full recovery from injuries was made within 18 months.
