Subject: 10 year boy suffers child head injuries in park
A 10 year old boy sustained severe head injuries that were potentially life threatening when part of a swing collapsed on him.
The boy was underneath the swing when the rotating mechanism gave way, striking him in the head. As a result he suffered a crushed and fractured skull, the loss of vision in one eye and had an eight day stay in hospital.
It was discovered that anengineer first alerted the council that the swing needed ‘urgent attention’ a year before the accident. The council was fined £18,000 and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £20,000.
We are unaware if the child via his parents or guardian are making a child injury compensation claim.
